What We Believe
At New Hope Church, we strive to steadfastly hold to and teach a faithful, biblical
worldview based on the word of God as our ultimate authority. The following are some
key doctrinal positions held to and taught by the Pastors and Elders of New Hope
Church:
1) The Trinity
We believe that there is only one true and living God, existing simultaneously and
eternally as three Persons (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) in one Being, each
co-equal and co-eternal. We believe that the equality of Persons in the Godhead is
consistent with their unique yet harmonious roles regarding the plan of redemption.
Exodus 3:14–16, Isaiah 43:10–13, Hebrews 11:6, John 10:30, Psalm 147:5
Matthew 28:19, 1 Corinthians 8:6, 2 Corinthians 13:14, Acts 5:3–5, Malachi 3:6
2) Jesus Christ
We believe that the eternal Second Person of the Trinity (God the Son) freely became
incarnate as the Lord Jesus Christ, being born of a virgin. We believe that Jesus Christ
is both truly-God and truly-man, and that He exists as one person with two complete
natures (one human and one divine). We believe that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life,
that He died on the cross for our sins as a substitute, that He was buried, and that on
the third day He rose from the dead in a glorified body. He subsequently ascended into
heaven, where He now sits at the right hand of God, interceding for believers until the
day on which He returns.
John 1:1–3, Colossians 2:9, Philippians 2:1–11, Hebrews 2:1–18, 4:14–16,
2 Corinthians 5:17–21, 1 Peter 2:21–25, 1 Timothy 2:5–6, Acts 4:12, John 14:6
3) Scripture
We believe that the Bible, including both the Old and New Testaments, is special
revelation from God, the original autographs of which were verbally inspired by the Holy
Spirit. We believe that the Bible is without error in all that it affirms. We believe that the
Bible, as the very word of God, is the sole ultimate authority in all matters on which it
speaks. We believe that Scripture is clear, being understood according to its
grammatical-historical context, and that God’s Spirit empowers His word for the
salvation of souls and the sanctification of God’s people.
2 Timothy 3:14–17, 2 Peter 1:19–21,
John 17:17, Psalm 19:7–14, Matthew 4:4
4) Salvation by Faith Alone
We believe that all mankind has fallen into sin, and that all people are sinners who
therefore deserve eternal punishment. We believe that sinners are justified (that is,
declared righteous before God) by faith in the death of Jesus Christ on the cross alone
as the atonement for their sins. We believe that all those who accept Jesus Christ as
Savior and Lord by faith are saved and born again, and that salvation is an act of God’s
grace which is received by faith alone, not by works. We believe that Jesus Christ is the
one and only Savior for sinners.
Galatians 2:15—3:29, Titus 3:4–7, Romans 3:19—4:8, Acts 4:12
5) Believer’s Baptism
We believe that baptism is the immersion in water of a believer in Christ, which publicly
confesses his conscious faith in Christ. We believe that baptism is to be done in the
name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that baptism is a joyful
act of Christian obedience, but it is not a necessary condition for salvation.
Matthew 28:19–20, Acts 8:34–40, Mark 1:9–11, Romans 6:3–4
6) Things to Come
We believe that Jesus Christ will one day return to this world bodily, and that following
His return there will occur the bodily resurrection of the dead and the final judgment. We
believe that all those who have received Christ as their personal Savior by faith will be
resurrected to conscious eternal life with God, while all those who have rejected Christ
as their Savior will be resurrected to conscious eternal punishment in hell.
2 Thessalonians 1:5–10, 1 Corinthians 15:20–58, 2 Peter 3:8–13
Romans 8:18–25, Matthew 25:31–46, Revelation 20:1–15
